Easter Island Wants To Ban Plastic Bags

Leo The Geo

The world’s most isolated inhabited place , Chilean island of Rapa Nui or commonly known as ‘Easter Island’ (Isla de Pascua) , is aiming to follow in the footsteps of fellow countrymen/women from Punta Arenas and ban the use of plastic bags in commerce . The initiative arose due to the effects of pollution on the island, e.g. lack of a sewage system or solid waste management.

The ban would be gradually applied, where the final aim is to ban all plastic bags and replace them with biodegradable ones.
