During my trip to South Africa, I was able to spend 2 weeks on a veterinary project in Shamwari Game Reserve. Throughout those 2 weeks, we shadowed the game reserve vets and rangers, helped with treatments, had lectures, attended a game auction, learnt how to handle deadly snakes, went on game drives, visited the Born Free centre etc etc. Basically we did a lot, but they’re stories for another day!
This particular photo, one of my favourites, was taken of a zebra who had been bitten by another in her herd whilst they were being held in the bomas. It was quite a big bite which wasn’t possible to stitch up so had to be cleaned and covered with a blue, antiseptic spray, which I’m proud to say was my honour. I’ve added extra pictures below so you can see exactly what was going on.
